The Community Living Room (CLR) is a gender- and culture-specific program of outreach, case management and behavioral health care that serves 100 homeless women annually. The program uses peer staff and low demand drop-in centers to engage homeless women in community settings, targeting single homeless women with drug or alcohol problems or dual diagnoses of substance use and mental illness. The goal is to create a safety net for homeless women who have not benefited from existing traditional services.
The interagency collaboration includes Columbus House, Hill Health Center, Fellowship Place, Marrakech, Yale PRCH and The Connecticut Women's Consortium. As part of the collaboration, the CWC provides training for peer staff with follow-up consultations for those who have graduated from the training.
